EAST CHICAGO | The Foundations of East Chicago recently held an
awards celebration announcing its 2011 scholarship recipients at
Ivy Tech Community College – East Chicago Campus.
The Foundation awarded 35 scholarships to high school seniors
from East Chicago totaling $81,500. Students from three area high
schools received scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $6,000.
In addition, the Foundation awarded eight $500 book assistance
scholarships to graduating high school seniors from East Chicago
along with 11, $1,000 Continuing Education Scholarships to adult
East Chicagoans who are pursuing a college degree.
In total, the Foundations of East Chicago awarded 54 East
Chicago residents $96,500 to help them fulfill their dream of
obtaining a college education.
“These students have worked very hard to get these
scholarships,” said Russ Taylor, executive director of the
Foundation, “I wish we had more to give to help them get a good
start in college.”
To complete the evening, the Foundation announced it would renew
scholarships for 90 past recipients who are working toward
completing their four-year degrees totaling $205,500.
Since 1998, the Foundations of East Chicago have awarded 570
scholarships to East Chicago residents to attend college. The value
of these scholarships total over $3.34 million.
